Mohegan Inspire Entertainment Resort in South Korea poised for its first-phase soft opening

November 30, 2023 South Korea Casino & HotelIndustry Updates

In South Korea, the newly opened Mohegan Inspire Entertainment Resort is preparing for a soft opening in its first phase, which will focus on non-gaming services. The resort will give preference to employing locals for its Inspire Arena entertainment events starting on December 8. The initial emphasis will be on income sources other than casinos, even though gaming enterprises are expected to open in time for the Lunar New Year in the first quarter of the following year.

Inspire’s President, Chen Si, emphasized that the resort would continue to provide a range of non-casino facilities throughout this period. Constructed at a cost of KRW 1.99 trillion (about US$1.54 billion), the resort marks the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority’s debut in Asia. The first phase includes the Inspire Arena, hotel towers, and convention center, all of which are aimed mostly at the Korean community living nearby.

Mr. Si claims that customers from China and Japan have already shown interest in the establishment, especially in light of occasions like the Melon Music Awards. The Inspire Arena, which can accommodate 15,000 people, describes itself as South Korea’s first multipurpose indoor entertainment space.

To reach a wide audience, the resort intends to make use of social media and internet marketing. The Inspire Arena is intended to host music awards, concerts with K-pop singers, and other activities. Si highlighted that the Native American tribe that owns Mohegan Gaming is experienced in event production.

Near Incheon International Airport, Inspire intends to work with nearby Paradise City, a casino resort, to produce a clustering effect and improve Incheon’s standing as a gaming destination.

The resort plans to start hosting MICE events in early 2024, taking advantage of its close proximity to the airport and the region’s economic benefits. Among the many eating choices at the resort is “Michael Jordan’s Steak House.” Additional attractions include Aurora, a digital entertainment strip, and Splash Bay, an indoor water park.

The hotel facilities at Inspire are anticipated to debut with 1,275 rooms spread over three separate buildings and extra villa accommodations. The resort aims to boost its appeal to the neighborhood and bring in a substantial sum of money by hosting a range of events and activities, which would be a big step forward for Mohegan Gaming’s international development.
