Macau sees 3% decline in number of gaming, junket workers

November 28, 2023 Macau Casino & HotelIndustry Updates

Between August and October, Macau’s gaming and junket workforce shrank by 3.1%, according to the city’s statistics office.

About 68,800 individuals were working in this industry during this time frame, compared to 71,000 during the previous July to September period. This unexpected cut was in contrast to efforts made earlier in the year to address the personnel shortage that was impeding municipal operations.

On the other hand, employment in the restaurant business grew by 1.9 percent to 21,100, while employment in the hotel industry expanded by almost 3% to 26,900.

In Macau, the overall jobless rate during this period was 2.4%.

When it came to occupational segmentation in Macau, those working in “hotels, restaurants, and similar activities” accounted for 13 percent of the workforce, while people working in “recreational, cultural, gambling, and other services” made up 21.7 percent.
