Australian authorities extend disciplinary measures against The Star

November 24, 2023 World Casino & HotelCrime & Legal

Australian authorities in Queensland have chosen to extend The Star’s disciplinary proceedings, delaying license suspensions until May 31, 2024. As part of the extension, The Star’s two locations in the state will employ a special manager.

The government’s move fits within a larger rehabilitation plan that also involves significant adjustments to risk management, financial crime, governance, and culture. The plan, which will probably take several years to implement, aims to significantly alter the management and operations of the casino.

The power of the special manager has been extended till December 8, 2024. Penalties of up to AU$ 5 million and further disciplinary action might follow noncompliance with the rehabilitation plan. The Star’s board of directors has allocated around AU$200 million to cover the costs of implementing the plan.

The CEO and Managing Director of the organization conveyed their happiness over the adoption of the Remediation Plan, emphasizing their dedication to strict and orderly implementation in order to restore appropriateness in Queensland. The Corporation must demonstrate compliance with the plan prior to the delayed suspensions going into effect.
