Jeju Dream Tower casino revenues decrease by 20.0% in September

In September, the casino revenues at the Jeju Dream Tower resort on South Korea’s Jeju Island decreased by 20.0% month-on-month, bringing in around KRW14.33 billion (US$10.6 million). There has already been a 10.9% drop from July to August.

The year-over-year comparison reveals an astounding 336.1% gain in gaming industry revenues, despite the monthly decline. These numbers have been published with rebates and commissions taken into account.

Table game sales in September were roughly KRW13.15 billion, a 17.4% decrease from August but a 358.3% rise over the same month a year earlier when the COVID-19 epidemic was still having an impact on island tourism.

The estimated KRW1.19 billion in machine game sales in September was a significant 183.8% year-over-year rise despite a significant 40.8% fall from the previous month.

The “drop,” or the sum that consumers spent in September to buy chips for table games, was around KRW103.76 billion, down 21.8% from the month before but significantly 67.7% more than the year before.

Only 1.9% fewer people visited the Jeju Dream Tower casino in September than in August’s total of 28,165 guests. Since its inauguration in June 2021, the casino claimed a record monthly visitor total in August.

Hotel sales for September were around KRW 7.91 billion, a fall of 7.5% from the same month last year and a decrease of 24.9% from the previous month.

The total casino revenues for the first nine months of the year came to close to KRW100.36 billion, representing an astonishing 186.5% growth over the same time the previous year, despite the lack of any precise explanations for these variations.

Table game sales increased by 187.0% during the course of the year to KRW90.22 billion (as of September 30), while machine game sales increased by 182.7% to around KRW10.14 billion.

The total casino table loss for the first nine months of the year was KRW 888.16 billion, a significant rise of 180.0% over the same time last year. The same January to September period, however, saw a 23.2% fall in hotel revenues, or around KRW69.27 billion.
