DNA Star Vegas in Cambodia seeks more junket operators

The CEO of Donaco International Ltd., Lee Bug Huy, has disclosed that the company’s DNA Star Vegas casino in Cambodia, which is close to the Thai border, is aggressively looking for more junket operators in order to increase the number of casino patrons.

Following the reopening of the Cambodia-Thai borders in June 2022, the casino had gradually started operating once again. Since then, a number of strategic efforts have been put into action, such as reforming gaming machine agreements, establishing retail locations, and revamping contracts with junket operators.

Donaco recorded net sales of AUD24.3 million (US$15.5 million) for the fiscal year that ended on June 30. This is a huge increase from AUD2.4 million in the prior year. Along the China-Vietnam border, the business also manages the Aristo International Hotel, a gaming complex.

Before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA), Donaco made a profit of AUD9.6 million as opposed to an EBITDA loss of AUD4.4 million the year before.

After dealing with difficulties brought on by the COVID-19 epidemic, Donaco had a return to normalcy in the fiscal year 2023, according to Lee Bug Huy.

He stated that the Aristo property got more Chinese visitors in the most recent fiscal year as a result of the Vietnam-China borders being fully reopened in January 2023. Aristo reduced the minimum turnover requirement for active junket operators to entice them to return, which increased the traction of VIP guests and boosted both gaming and non-gaming income.

Lee Bug Huy expressed hope that travel between Vietnam and China and between Thailand and Cambodia would resume, which would be advantageous to the group’s operations. He expects the recovery to continue and pick up speed in the fiscal year 2024.
