PH welcomes 4 million tourists in 9 months, close to meeting 2023 goal

According to Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco, the Philippines has had more than 4 million international tourists this year, resulting in tourism expenditures of more than Php316 billion. Frasco disclosed 4,005,465 foreign arrivals from January to September while speaking at a tourist expo.

With an optimistic prognosis of surpassing it, this puts the Philippines on course to handily meet its 2023 objective of 4.8 million visitors.

According to Frasco, South Korea continues to be the leading tourism market, bringing in 1.04 million tourists, followed by the US, Japan, China, and Australia.

However, the number of Chinese visitors has decreased dramatically from the 1.7 million reported in 2019, with 194,209 arrivals. To attract more Chinese visitors, the Department of Tourism is pushing for changes to the visa regulations.

Frasco emphasised the resurgence of tourism and pledged assistance for the sector’s private sector to maintain its long-term prosperity.
