Macau’s gaming workforce drops by 2,176 in Q2

September 12, 2022 Macau Casino & Hotel

Macau’s Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) has revealed there were 53,592 full-time employees in the gaming industry as of the second quarter, a year-on-year decrease of 2,176. Among them were 24,093 dealers, a decrease of 550 over the same period last year.

The average salary (excluding bonuses) in the gaming industry in June was MOP$23,270, a year-on-year decrease of 1.8%. The average salary for local employees was MOP$23,320 and for expatriate employees was MOP$21,510.

As of the second quarter, there were only 19 vacancies in the gaming industry, a year-on-year decrease of 37.

Among the vacancies, only 10.5% required working experience and 78.9% required only senior secondary education or lower. Of the vacancies, 100% required knowledge of Mandarin and 89.5% of English respectively.

The number of new recruits and employees who left the gaming industry in the second quarter was 143 and 816 respectively, while the vacancy rate fell to near-zero.

DSEC noted, “The drop in the vacancy rate to near zero reflects that the demand for manpower in the gaming industry has remained low due to the ongoing impact of the pandemic.”
