China’s Crackdown Crushes 10,000 Gambling Cases

China reports a sharp decline in rural gambling following a nationwide crackdown, resolving over 10,000 cases and dismantling illegal betting networks. Read more on the impact and future prevention strategies.

Gambling Cases, China reports

Chinese authorities noted a sharp decline in rural gambling as it launched a crackdown against their operations nationwide.

As reported by state news agency Xinhua, the operation targeted illegal gambling platforms, lotteries and online prostitution rings, resolving thousands of similar cases.

The crackdown dismantled criminal organizations and shut down illicit establishments, amounting to thousands, the whole year.

Targeting Rural and Online Gambling

In one of its most significant initiatives, China underwent a nationwide operation targeting gambling in rural areas during winter and spring. The massive crackdown resolved 10,000 criminal cases in 100,000 violations, leading to a notable decline in gambling-related activities in those communities.

Authorities also ceased illegal gambling operations linked to international football tournaments during the summer. The operations found more than 800 cases and dismantled 500 gambling rings linked to high-stakes betting.

Long-term Resolution

The ministry also tapped industry regulators to address what it described as the root causes of illegal gambling operations. The government wants to implement long-term prevention strategies to curb these operations in the future.

In China, gambling is strictly prohibited, whether inside or outside the country. It has also collaborated with authorities across Asia to conduct operations against illegal casinos.
