Chinese Hacker Tied to POGOs Arrested by Philippine Authorities

July 23, 2024 Philippines Crime & LegaliGaming & Gambling

A Chinese hacker connected to Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs) has been detained by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in San Fernando, La Union. Lin Qiude, 40, was captured by the BI’s fugitive search unit (FSU) with support from other law enforcement agencies at Poro Point Freeport on July 20, according to BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco.

Lin is reportedly a high-ranking figure at Lucky South 99, an alleged operator of a POGO hub in Porac, Pampanga, which was recently raided. The Chinese police have informed the BI that Lin is wanted for fraud in China, with an arrest warrant issued by a prosecutor in Anxi County.

Tansingco called Lin’s arrest a significant achievement, noting that Lin has defrauded people worldwide. Authorities suspect Lin may be involved in hacking banks in the United States, the Middle East, and Europe.

Lin is currently held at the BI custodial facility at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City. The arrest was carried out by the BI-FSU, along with the BI’s intelligence division, the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission, the Philippine National Police, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
