Macau Ups Non-Gaming Ante: Casinos Must Host Sports & Arts Events
The new mission for Macau’s casino operators is to support major arts events every two years and international sporting events twice a month.
This move is consistent with the government’s plans to expand Macau’s offerings beyond gaming in order to establish the city as a premier destination for sports and the arts.
At a press meeting, MGM China Holdings Chairperson Pansy Ho gave the order.
Furthermore, Macau’s six concessionaires have committed to spending MOP108.7 billion ($13.6 billion) on non-gaming projects over the course of the next ten years.
“Tens of thousands of rooms, all from five-star international brands,” is part of Macau’s established tourism infrastructure, according to Ho. The goal today is to make the most of these resources in order to transform Macau from its reputation as a “Asian gaming hub” and create a more varied entertainment landscape.
