Inbound travel to China increases by 40% compared to previous quarter: Trip.com

November 21, 2023 China Industry Updates

The third quarter of 2023 saw a roughly 40% improvement in global search results for inbound travel to China over the previous quarter, according to information from Trip.com.

According to Trip.com, a prominent global online travel agency, China’s increasing liberalization of travel policies is expected to boost foreign travel in the coming years. Travel to the country has been made possible in large part by actions taken by the Chinese government since November 1st, including an expedited visa application process and the removal of the Entry Health Declaration Card requirement for new entrants.

Trip.com figures indicate that in October 2023, there will be a 98% increase in inbound airline bookings compared to the same month last year. The top ten most popular cities for incoming travelers (apart from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan) were Shenzhen, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Beijing, Zhuhai, Hangzhou, Foshan, Xiamen, Zhongshan, and Chengdu. With visitor numbers rising by four figures in the first ten months of 2023 compared to the same time in 2022, inbound tourism to China is expanding and has reached more than 60% of pre-pandemic levels.

Travelers from outside may now pay with more ease thanks to e-payment service providers, who allow them to connect credit cards to Chinese e-payment networks. In order to foster friendships and cross-cultural exchanges between China and tourists from across the world, Trip.com Group has teamed up with the China International Culture Association to promote inbound tourism. The company wants to draw tourists from across the globe by showcasing China’s distinctive qualities, streamlining resources for tourism promotion, and enhancing access for arriving guests via the use of technology.
