First chartered passenger flight from mainland China to Jeju Island in seven years takes off

A major advancement for South Korea’s tourism industry was made with the first chartered passenger aircraft from mainland China to Jeju Island in seven years.

With two weekly flights planned, the aircraft, operated by West Airlines, transported 180 passengers from Zhengzhou, in the province of Henan, signifying the restoration of regular charter services.

The suspension of these flights was attributed to a wider dispute between South Korea and China over a missile system provided by the United States.

Unknown airlines will start operating charter flights to Hefei and Fuzhou this month, according to Lotte Tour Development, the company behind the Jeju Dream Tower casino complex.

Starting on December 1, Jeju will get four weekly flights operated by Guangzhou Air Charter. A significant rise in the number of tourists visiting Jeju Island from China has also been shown by Lotte Tour, which announced planned aircraft charters from Chongqing, Qingdao, Changsha, and Wuhan in December.
