MBS experiences data breach affecting 665k customers
A data breach occurred recently at the Marina Bay Sands (MBS) casino resort in Singapore, giving unauthorized individuals access to 665,000 customers’ personal data.
While acknowledging the breach, an MBS spokesperson pointed out that there is currently no evidence that the data that was made available was used to harm customers.
Local news website Today first reported on the breach, citing an email from Paul Town, the property’s chief operating officer. Illegal access to specific customers’ loyalty program membership data occurred on October 19 and 20, 2023.
Among the affected personal data are names, email addresses, phone numbers—both mobile and landline—country of residence, membership numbers, and membership tiers. Notably, membership information for the casino rewards program was untouched.
After discovering the hack, Marina Bay Sands looked into it and worked with an outside cybersecurity firm to strengthen its systems and protect data. In order to apologize for any difficulty, the company is also getting in touch with members of the Sands LifeStyle reward program. They are assisting with the investigations and have reported the incident to authorities in Singapore and other pertinent countries.
Clients are advised to regularly change their login PIN, keep an eye out for any strange activity on their accounts, and be cautious when clicking on links that can lead to fraudulent websites requesting personal information.
