Over 80 individuals arrested over illegal gambling in Phnom Penh

The Department of Anti-Commercial Gaming Crimes of the Ministry of Interior arrested and questioned over 80 individuals on suspicion of engaging in illegal gaming. The arrests took place at a company in the Chamkar Mon neighborhood of Phnom Penh.

Major General Chuon Narin, the chief of police in Phnom Penh, said that the Department of Anti-Commercial Gaming Crimes has jurisdiction over this issue and that they have been actively looking into illicit gaming activities in the region.

Law enforcement officers conducted the present raid in Tonle Bassac commune, Chamkar Mon district, Phnom Penh, at around nine o’clock at night.

Eyewitnesses said that the Department of Anti-Commercial Gambling Crimes had a big police presence around the area and conducted the raid, which led to the detention of several individuals, including Chinese, Vietnamese, and Cambodian nationalities. Snooker and slot machines, along with other gambling products, were seized along with electronic devices.

To be questioned, the suspects were brought to the Anti-Commercial Gambling Crimes Department. Requests for a response from the head of the Interior Ministry’s Anti-Commercial Gambling Department, Lieutenant General Sieng Sen, went unanswered.
