Chinese Embassy in PH hails cooperation as 36 illegal POGO employees deported

Following the expulsion of 36 additional Chinese POGO (Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator) employees, the Chinese Embassy in Manila has praised the collaboration between Chinese and Philippine law enforcement authorities. The Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) busted an illegal offshore gambling enterprise in Pasay City in August, and these employees were associated with it.

At the PAOCC’s request, the Embassy provided travel papers for these people. They said that this deportation is a component of China and the Philippines‘ continued collaboration in the battle against POGOs and other illicit activities. The Embassy has urged the Philippines to take decisive action to stop these types of crimes and get rid of POGOs’ detrimental societal effects.

China’s opposition to gambling in all its manifestations and its demand for the Philippines to make sure Chinese nationals are not illegal gamblers were also reaffirmed in the statement. They underlined how crucial it is for the law enforcement authorities of the two nations to work together in order to combat online fraud, telecommunications fraud, and illegal gaming. Regarding these issues, the Chinese Embassy promised to improve coordination and communication with the Philippine government and law enforcement.

With the October 2022 statement that refuted the Philippines’ classification as a travel destination on a travel blacklist because of worries about its online gaming sector, these remarks represent the Embassy’s first remarks on the subject of online gambling. This was in reaction to remarks made by a senator from the Philippines implying that the nation had been placed on a blacklist because of POGO-related problems.

As part of its attempts to clean up the offshore gambling business, the gaming regulator for the Philippines, PAGCOR, is now in the process of giving new licenses to POGO operators, who will go by the name Internet gambling Licensees in the future.
