Macau hotels expected to be fully booked during October holiday

September 15, 2023 Macau Casino & Hotel

According to the industry association, hotel and integrated resort operators in Macau anticipate a prosperous Golden Week holiday during the upcoming “National Day,” with hotel occupancy rates expected to increase to close to 100 percent.

The head of the Macau Hoteliers & Innkeepers Association, Lou Chi Leong, stated that September is historically a sluggish month for tourism. On a recent Saturday, more than one hundred thousand tourists arrived in Macau, indicating that this year appears to be unique. In addition, he noted that the number of visitors did not decline significantly during the week, fueling optimism that Macau’s hotels will be completely booked during the October Golden Week.

This optimistic outlook is supported by positive trends in the hotel industry in Macau. In July, the average daily rate for a hotel room in Macau was MOP1,425 ($177), a 5.14 percent increase from the same period in 2019 when the average daily rate was $1,355 ($168). In July, hotels in Macau had an average occupancy rate of 93%, according to information compiled by the Macau Hotel Association. Additionally, the average occupancy rates for five-star, four-star, and three-star hotels were 92.9%, 89.1%, and 97.2%, respectively.

In comparison to July 2019, the average hotel occupancy rate remained stable at 93.5 percent, with five-star, four-star, and three-star hotels achieving average occupancy rates of 94.4 percent, 88.1 percent, and 96.1 percent, respectively.

These trends demonstrate the resiliency and allure of Macau’s tourism industry, with the potential for further growth during the upcoming holiday season.
