PBA in Talks for Arena Project in Pasig with Chavit Singson
The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) is exploring the development of its own arena, a move that could strengthen its independence and enhance fan experience.
Talks have begun with politician and businessman Chavit Singson to possibly construct a dedicated venue for the league, Commissioner Willie Marcial said, as reported by SPIN.
This step follows earlier considerations for a custom-built arena to secure PBA’s own home base, an idea gaining traction as venues like the Smart Araneta Coliseum face increasing demand from various events.
Marcial also said there is a 70 to 75 percent chance that the construction of a PBA arena will be a reality, after the plan was last floated in 2010 by then league chairman Buddy Encarnado of Sta. Lucia.
Singson, through his LCS Group, owns the Metrowalk property in Pasig City, near Ortigas and Meralco Avenues. He controls the Metrowalk Commercial Complex.
Based on a report published by Esquire, Singson, representing BLEMP Commercial Philippines Inc., is asserting his claim to the full 18.5 hectares of the “Payanig sa Pasig” site. This location encompasses the Metrowalk property.
In April, Singson announced his company’s intentions to transform the area into a “new city.” Notably, one of the stations for the ongoing Metro Manila Subway project will be situated in this location.
