Gumayusi Powers T1 To Worlds 2024 Grand Finals, Sets Showdown With Bilibili Gaming
T1 will move on to the Grand Finals of the League of Legends World Championship, defying odds and defeating League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) title-holders Gen.G in a 3-1 series held at the Adidas Arena in Paris, France.
T1, led by Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, will be facing League of Legends Pro League (LPL) team Bilibili Gaming at the O2 Arena in London in a bid to become back-to-back champions after a dominant showing against Weibo Gaming in Seoul, South Korea last year.
Gen.G set the tone in the first game. But what looked like a Baron win for Gen.G turned on its head, as Mun “Oner” Hyeon-jun zoned out two Gen.G players and set Lee “Gumayusi” Min-hyeong up for a triple kill.
Gumayusi’s spotless record ended in Game 2 as Kim “Peyz” Su-hwan killed him, and Gen.G got on board with a quick win, done within 27 minutes of play.
Unfazed however, T1 shook Game 2 off and won the next two maps to barge into the finals and finally avenge themselves against Gen.G at a much larger stage. Viewership also peaked at 4.9 million during the match, according to Esports Charts data. T1 also overcame odds set by bookmakers, which initially favored GEN.G
This is T1’s second straight Worlds Finals appearance and Faker’s 7th overall, further cementing his place as the greatest League of Legends player of all time.
