Online Slot Games Lead Betting Trends Among Thai Gamblers
A recent report from TGM Research reveals that online slot games have become the most popular betting choice for Thai gamblers, closely followed by online sports betting. This study, part of a broader analysis of the APAC region, highlights significant changes in consumer behavior regarding gambling in Thailand.
AGBrief reports that this survey was conducted between June 1 and July 31, 2024 and included insights from 142 individuals aged 18 to 54, painting a clear picture of the country’s betting habits. The findings indicate that online and mobile platforms have reshaped how Thais engage with sports betting, marking a departure from traditional methods.
The report shows that 20 percent of respondents participated in some form of gambling or sports betting over the past year, which includes visits to casinos and online bets. Approximately 14.3 million adults in Thailand are believed to engage in these activities.
Specifically, 44 percent of Thai participants reported playing online slot games, while 40 percent placed bets on sports events like football and horse racing. Lottery games (such as Powerball and bingo) attracted 33 percent of gamblers while another 33 percent preferred to play online card games. Additionally, informal betting among friends and in-person casino games remain popular, with only 7 percent of respondents claiming they do not participate in any gambling activities.
The frequency of betting is notable, with 34 percent of casino gamblers and 28 percent of sports bettors wagering a few times a week. However, daily betting is less common, with only 10 percent betting on casino games and 9 percent on sports every day.
Overall, the trends in Thailand align with broader gambling behaviors observed across the APAC region, although the latter shows slightly more moderate weekly engagement across casino and sports betting platforms.
