BI Agents Arrest Four Chinese Fugitives Linked to Parañaque Scam Hub

September 17, 2024 Philippines Crime & Legal

Bureau of Immigration agents have arrested four Chinese fugitives allegedly connected to a scam hub raided in Parañaque City.

In a press release, the BI reported that its Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) apprehended the suspects, aged 33, 32, 37, and 26, who are now detained at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City, in a report published by the AGB.

The suspects were reportedly involved in a cryptocurrency investment and romance scam operation in Parañaque City, which posed as a legitimate Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) firm last month.

One suspect is wanted in Beijing for concealing income-related crimes; two are sought for fraud; and another is wanted for illegal business activities.

Separately, BI-FSU also arrested a 53-year-old Taiwanese man in Manila for being an undesirable alien. According to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO), he faces a 2005 arrest warrant for rape in Taiwan and had overstayed in the Philippines for over 20 years.
