Carlos Yulo Gives Message For His Father Who Braved Manila Crowds at Parade
Mark Andrew Yulo, father of double-gold medalist Carlos Yulo, braved the thick crowds at Manila in order to show his unwavering support for his son. Amidst the cheers of thousands, the father’s love stood out like a beacon during the grand heroes’ parade for the Philippines’ Paris Olympians on August 14, 2024.
Carlos, more popularly known as “Caloy,” had just returned from the Paris Olympics, where he etched his name in history by winning two gold medals in the men’s floor exercise and men’s vault events.
Family members were excluded from riding Manila’s welcome parade float for the Paris 2024 Olympians. Caloy’s father Mark showed his love for his son by being part of the Roxas Boulevard crowd.
Mark stood out among the crowd with a banner that read: “CALOY, DITO PAPA MO!” His emotional display of love and pride, waving and sending heart gestures towards his son, did not go unnoticed. The sight of Mark jubilantly raising his hands while being lifted by a companion was a highlight for many. Mark’s presence in the crowd served as a powerful reminder of the strong bond between them.
Although Carlos did not have the chance to directly acknowledge his father during the live parade due to the overwhelming attention from fans, he later took to social media to express his gratitude. In a heartfelt Facebook post, Carlos wrote: “Maraming salamat Pa, masaya ako nakita kita don nakasuporta! Pasensya na pa hindi ako masyado nakakaway, ang daming nag pa autograph hehe.”
This public display of affection from both father and son comes amid a backdrop of family controversies that have followed Carlos since his Olympic victories.
The family’s journey has not been without its hurdles. Carlos’s grandfather, Rodrigo Frisco, revealed that the family had initially planned to join the grand homecoming. Yet, feelings of being overlooked and unwelcome led them to reconsider. “Napag-isip-isip din namin magmumukha kaming kawawa dun dahil hindi na kami pinasalubong sa pagdating niya,” Rodrigo was quoted as saying in an interview with ABS-CBN News, expressing their concern about appearing as mere spectators.
While Carlos and his father seem to be mending their relationship, it remains uncertain whether Carlos has reconciled with his mother, Angelica Yulo. After publicly criticizing Carlos’s girlfriend, Chloe San Jose, Angelica issued an apology to her son on August 7, 2024, at Heroes’ Hotel in Manila.
