What You Need to Know About Aug 14 Parade for Olympic Medalists

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is set to honor the Filipino athletes who competed in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France. A special ceremony will be held at Malacañang Palace on Wednesday, August 14. This was originally scheduled for August 13 Tuesday, The celebration will spotlight the remarkable achievements of the athletes, particularly two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo.
The athletes, who have brought home a total of four medals from the Paris Games, will be welcomed back to the Philippines with a grand heroes’ parade. The parade will kick off at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City, where government officials will formally greet the returning Olympians. From there, the parade will wind through key areas of Manila before culminating at Malacañang Palace.
The Heroes’ Grand Homecoming Parade is scheduled to take place at 3 P.M. Affected areas include V. Sotto Street, Roxas Boulevard, P. Burgos Avenue, Finance Road, Ayala Boulevard, P. Casal Street, Legarda Street, and Mendiola Street.
Leading the parade will be Yulo, who secured two gold medals in gymnastics, marking a historic moment for Philippine sports. Boxers Aira Villegas and Nesthy Petecio also contributed to the country’s medal haul, each earning a bronze medal in their respective events.
The Presidential Communications Office announced that the festivities will include a special program at Malacañang, where President Marcos will personally present incentives to the athletes. These incentives are a recognition of the athletes’ “extraordinary contributions to Philippine sports and their stellar performance during the 2024 Paris Olympics.”
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has already released the parade route and advised motorists to take alternate routes to avoid traffic disruptions. The entire nation is expected to join in the celebration, as the athletes’ achievements have brought immense pride and honor to the Philippines.
The athletes’ return and the subsequent celebration at Malacañang underscore the significance of their accomplishments on the global stage.
