PNP to Guard PAOCC After Threats Following POGO Crackdown

July 4, 2024 Philippines Crime & Legal

The Philippine National Police (PNP) will provide security assistance to personnel and officials of the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) who have received threats. This response follows threats made against PAOCC staff after their crackdown on illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs), as reported by the Philippine News Agency.

The PNP spokesperson stated they are coordinating with the PAOCC and advised anyone receiving threats to provide statements for documentation and appropriate charges.

The PNP also acknowledged the former president’s opinion that some officers are involved in illegal POGO activities and assured they would not tolerate corruption.

Meanwhile, a senator urged suspended mayor Alice Guo to identify the “kingpins” of illegal POGOs during an upcoming Senate hearing. Guo faces human trafficking charges related to a POGO raid in Bamban. Another senator called for further investigation into widespread POGO-related politics in the country.
