Macau Revamps Image: Casinos Learn to Diversify
As per Craig Fullalove of Wynn Macau, Macau’s casino operators are modifying their offerings to draw in foreign visitors. Fullalove acknowledged the shortcomings but highlighted notable initiatives like the LIV Golf Tournament, which exposed the cultural heritage of Macau to a worldwide audience.
There is a learning curve for businesses focusing on casinos because the government of Macau forces concessionaires to invest in non-gambling attractions.
“Our objective is to eliminate ineffective elements and focus more on those that do well,” said Fullalove, in an effort to appeal to a broader spectrum of individuals over the long term.
Cooperation is essential. Initially pledging MOP$108.7 billion in non-gaming initiatives, the six concessionaires are now working together to enhance each other’s skills.
Praisefully, Fullalove noted, “there’s a lot more dialogue now,” praising government involvement.
With over 90% of its visitors coming from mainland China, this emphasis on diversification aims to reduce Macau’s reliance on that country.
Director of the Macau Government Tourism Office Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes is hopeful about drawing tourists from outside.
The casino industry in Macau is actively changing to become a more varied travel destination, despite ongoing challenges.
