Victorian Bingo Boom Prompts Regulatory Review
The VGCCC, Victoria’s gaming body, has opened an inquiry into bingo laws. The number of people playing bingo has climbed by 70% in recent years, and the game brought in AU$107 million last year.
The regulator’s goal in the digital age is to maintain the game’s “social, safe, and fair” aspects. Commissioner Fran Thorn voiced worries about the growth of electronic bingo with bigger jackpots and potential harm to vulnerable populations.
The effectiveness of current rules pertaining to cash transactions and charity profit allocation will be evaluated.
The goal of this study is to reduce any risks associated with the growing bingo industry and gain a deeper understanding of the evolving bingo scene.
