Macau Casino Crackdown on Illegal Money Exchange: Limited Impact Expected
Analysts predict that Macau’s crackdown on illicit money exchange businesses near its casinos won’t have much of an effect on gaming revenue.
Because these services cater to a particular set of players and may account for less than 10% of income, JP Morgan feels the impact will be “limited”.
This is not a novel tactic; underground banks and unauthorized UnionPay terminals have already been the target of Macau. According to analysts, this action is similar to previous attempts.
Although there may be an initial decline in stocks, JP Morgan expects a minor and transitory reaction because these movements are well-known.
