Dubai Casino Threatens Nearby Wynn Resort
June 5, 2024 United Arab Emirate
If gaming is allowed in Dubai, Wynn Resorts’ recently opened casino in Ras Al-Khaimah (RAK) would face difficulties. Analysts feel that when compared to Dubai’s glitz, RAK’s small size limits its attraction.
Expert Vitaly Umansky said that “RAK is a non-starter” if Dubai joins the fray. The proposed casino in Dubai would ruin RAK’s economy but not significantly help it.
The rules are still not clear. Daniel Cheng, an analyst, states, “We haven’t seen any regulatory rules.” Although there are little information available, the UAE has established a gambling authority.
When Wynn Al Marjan Island opens in 2027, it might be of interest to tourists who are not gamblers. Umansky sees a focus on cuisine, drink, and entertainment akin to that of Las Vegas.
Rather than Chinese high rollers, local expats are more likely to be the target clientele. “The market will rely on local expats, but what is their propensity to gamble?” says Umansky.
