Gaming Industry Tackles Bias with Allyship Training
Saroca’s LeadHERship initiative tackled allyship, a crucial problem for female gamers. Co-founder Emily Leeb used a scenario devoid of gender or racial cues to teach participants about unconscious prejudice and help them identify their own biases.
Being aware of these prejudices is essential to allying yourself with minorities and women. The seminar examined how bias may manifest itself in seemingly innocuous remarks like criticizing a working mother’s burden.
They also looked at ways that women may assist one another in leadership posts and challenge internalized misogyny.
What should we remember most? It is important for women to support one another, mentor other women, and speak out against bias.
This has a knock-on effect that promotes inclusivity and diversity in the gaming industry.
