China, South Korea Vow to Crack Down on Cross-Border Gambling

China and South Korea pledged on Thursday to increase their cooperation in the fight against cross-border gaming during a meeting of their top security officials.

Yoon Hee-keun, the commissioner general of the National Police Agency in South Korea, met with Wang Xiaohong, China’s minister of public security, in Beijing.

Wang emphasized the value of working as a team to create a “win-win” scenario based on collaboration, creativity, and the rule of law.

China’s current attempts to restrict gambling are congruent with the focus on international gaming.

The act of gambling is deemed illegal in the nation, and it has been explicitly made illegal by a Criminal Law amendment.

This meeting came about as a result of alerts issued in February via the WeChat platform by the Chinese Embassy in Korea.

It stressed the potential legal ramifications and advised Chinese nationals visiting South Korea not to gamble.

This year, the Chinese embassies in the Philippines and Singapore sent out similar statements.

The goal of the negotiations is to create a system of increased security and law enforcement collaboration.

This would require joint efforts to address financial crimes, drug trafficking, telecom network fraud, and other challenges in addition to cross-border gambling.

Both parties committed to improving law enforcement capabilities and bolstering cooperation.

This development is the result of China and South Korea working together to solve a significant issue. They believe that by cooperating, they can make both countries’ environments more secure.
