Laguna police arrest 366 individuals involved in illegal gambling activities
The local police authority in Laguna, Philippines has said that 837 persons who were suspected of engaging in various illegal activities were taken into custody during a flurry of anti-crime operations that took place in March.
The majority of those detained are thought to be connected to the illicit drug trade and gambling, according to Col. Gauvin Mel Unos, the acting provincial commander of the Laguna Police Provincial Office (LPPO), who made this announcement to the media on Tuesday.
Roughly 366 persons were apprehended for participating in illegal gambling activities, such as unregulated number games, underground cockfights (tupada), and online betting businesses.
According to Unos, authorities apprehended 260 persons in different anti-drug operations, and they found 586.6 grams of methamphetamine, popularly known as “shabu,” and over 84 grams of marijuana, worth a little over PHP4 million.
In addition, during buy-bust operations aimed at gun traffickers, police officers apprehended 26 persons suspected of trafficking guns and recovered around 50 illicit firearms.
Furthermore, around 185 individuals were apprehended for many other offenses, some of which had outstanding arrest warrants.
Unos emphasized that in order to effectively combat criminals in Laguna, the public had to be involved.
