Thailand blocks over 25,000 online gambling sites

While it considers legalizing casino gaming, Thailand is closely monitoring illicit internet gambling businesses. Recently, a new law was implemented that recognizes illicit gambling as a major economic offense.

Kanika Aunjit, a deputy government spokeswoman, unveiled the plan and underlined the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society’s determination to investigate, halt, prohibit, and punish illegal online gaming activities.

The prime minister, Srettha Thavisin, has called attention to the main risks of internet gambling, emphasizing the negative impacts on the economy and public health. Incidents of identity theft and concerns about teenage access highlight the urgent need for prompt action.

Kanika warned Thai citizens about the risks associated with online gambling and the deceptive claims made by unscrupulous operators. The government, in its steadfast endeavor to protect citizens from the hazards connected with unregulated gambling, encourages individuals not to be swayed by possible advantages.

Thailand’s resolute opposition to internet gambling is shown by its efforts to counter offshore businesses. Between October 1 and March 5, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society suspended over 60,681 instances of improper content and blacklisted over 25,571 websites connected to online gambling.

Internet gambling is strictly prohibited in Thailand; violators risk penalties of up to 200,000 baht and maybe even ten years in jail. Fines of up to 2,000 Baht and a two-year jail term are possible inducements to bet.

Thailand is progressively investigating the idea of legalizing casino games, despite its continued strong opposition to internet gambling. A new law allowing the development of casino resorts was overwhelmingly adopted by the Thai House of Representatives.

Experts speculate that Thailand may have developed its first casino more successfully than Japan, even launching it before to the formal opening of MGM Resorts’ integrated complex in Osaka.
