Macau junket operators opposes proposed ban on issuing gaming credit
A proposed ban on the issuing of gaming credits was opposed by junket operators, who sent a letter to Macau’s Legislative Assembly voicing their discomfort. The head of the Legislative Assembly’s 2nd Standing Committee, Chan Chak Mo, said that the committee is now reviewing the proposed law on the issuance of gaming credit after receiving this letter from gambling marketers.
Contrary to present practice, the revised language of the proposed law indicates that gambling marketers would no longer be allowed to provide credit at casinos. Concerned about danger and the long-term expansion of the gaming sector, the government moved to amend the law in December of the previous year.
Chan Chak Mo reportedly attested to having received the letter from the gaming promoters, who argue that Macau SAR’s gaming tax revenue has grown as a result of the current policy that permits them to provide credit. They therefore advocate for the maintenance of their capacity to provide loans.
