Thailand’s House of Representatives set to present report on feasibility study on legalizing casinos

The Bangkok Post reports that the House of Representatives committee in charge of conducting a feasibility study on the establishment of casinos in Thailand will give its conclusions to the legislature the following week.

Leading Pheu Thai Party figures said that the special committee on legalizing casinos has concluded its analysis, indicating that legalization is feasible.

The special House committee’s deputy finance minister, Julapun Amornvivat, said on Tuesday that the committee’s inquiry was concluded and included a wealth of material. He purportedly said that the study would go to the cabinet for approval and implementation if the House approved it.

The deputy chairman of the special committee and secretary general of the coalition’s main Pheu Thai Party, Sorawong Thienthong, said that the panel’s inquiry will be finished on Thursday and submitted to the House the following week.

He emphasized that the government might make a lot of money if this plan is put into action, emphasizing the idea of entertainment complexes where casinos would only play a small part.

The National Assembly received a report from the legislative committee on the viability of building casino resorts in Thailand in July 2022. The report suggested approving the construction of “entertainment complexes” with licensed casinos in several states around the country.
