Thailand’s cyber police shuts down two online gambling networks
Thailand’s cyber police shut down two online gambling networks and seized millions of baht in currency used for unlawful activities.
Leading the operation on February 15 was the Royal Thai Police’s Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD), which led to the closure of ramruy.net and pok9.com and the arrest of 26 individuals connected to these websites. It seems that these illegal websites brought in more than THB 300 million ($8.3 million) per month.
The TCSD Chief of Police, Lieutenant General Worawat Watnakornbancha, and Minister of Digital Economy and Society, Prasert Jantararuangtong, oversaw the operation. Money managers, betting agents, and operation sponsors were among those apprehended. More than THB 40 million ($1.13 million) worth of goods, including cars, high-end watches, and designer purses, were seized.
In a second case, two South Korean nationals were detained by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) in Bangkok for running an illegal online gambling service and overstaying their visa. The 30 and 38-year-old suspects were apprehended at different locations across Bangkok due to their involvement with Oppa Casino. They might be extradited to South Korea for further legal processes after being charged in Thailand.
