February 13, 2024 China Crime & Legal

A total of 770 individuals were apprehended in Guangdong for engaging in gambling-related activities as part of the Public Security Department’s “Breeze 2024” specialized operation.

Adjacent to Macau, the only gambling-legal area in China, is Guangdong, which has seen a significant increase in law enforcement operations.

Chinese media outlets claim that the authorities have dealt with over 470 criminal cases involving gaming. Particular attention has been paid to the distinct characteristics of criminal activity associated to gambling, particularly in rural regions.

Particular attention has been paid to mobile casinos, Texas Hold’em poker, and the “Mark Six” game. Targets have included profiteers, operators, organizers, and anyone who provides clandestine support.

Officials have also disclosed information on raids. The Guangdong Police carried out a major operation in mid-January that resulted in the closure of 24 illegal gambling establishments and the arrest of 544 persons. These illicit casinos might be found in many of the province’s cities.
