Solon tells PCSO head to resign amid viral edited photo of lotto winner

January 22, 2024 Philippines Events & Announcements

Representative Robert Ace Barbers of Surigao del Norte has taken issue with the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) in response to a disagreement involving a photo that was purportedly altered of a Lotto 6/42 jackpot winner who was claiming a P43 million prize.

Barbers said there was a lack of public trust in PCSO and requested that General Manager Melquiades Robles to resign.

Robles, who remained silent in the face of the accusations, defended the altered photo by asserting that it was meant to hide the winners’ names. Barbers said that rather than resolving issues about phony winners, the policy sparked controversy. He emphasized that the only way to quell the escalating clamor would be for Robles to step down due to delicadeza, or a sense of appropriateness.

Robles said in a radio interview that the PCSO started altering winners’ photos after a previous winner had complaints about being acknowledged. He said that the winner had additional security since the picture was posted on the PCSO’s Facebook page later than expected.

In response, Barbers likened the state of affairs to a magic show, suggesting that the disagreement has escalated into a spectacle that rivals even the most amazing television shows. According to the congressman, Robles’ firing or resignation is essential to putting out the crisis and regaining the public’s confidence in the PCSO
