Macau aims to attract approximately 3 million overseas visitors in 2024

The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) head, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, has said that Macau anticipates around 3 million foreign visitors this year.

The full-year count in 2019, the year before the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, is comparable to this goal. 1.46 million foreign visitors visited Macau in 2023, making up over 48% of all visitors in 2019.

According to the government of Macau, one of its policy objectives is to support casino operators in growing their customer base outside of China. Bidders must present plans and make investments to draw in more foreign customers as part of the 10-year gaming concession bidding process.

The MGTO started a free-ticket campaign for the direct bus service from Hong Kong International Airport to Macau to promote foreign travel even further. This subsidy aims to encourage international visitors to Hong Kong to extend their stays in Macau and will increase travel to two destinations.

It is reported that 28.23 million visitors have visited Macau in 2023, averaging more than 77,000 per day. According to a second press statement from the tourism office, this data represents a comeback to over 70% of the levels seen in 2019.
