Macau Airport Handles 5.15M Passengers in 2023
A total of 5.15 million passengers were handled at Macau International Airport (MIA) in 2023, which is 54% of 2019 levels.
The decline in passenger numbers between 2020 and 2022 was attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic. When international crossings reopened on January 8, 2023, the mending process officially began.
The MIA projects 42,504 flight movements in 2023, with an average of 116 aircraft movements and 14,000 passengers per day. Currently, 48 destinations in China, Taiwan, Southeast Asia, and Northeast Asia are served by 25 airlines out of MIA.
Out of the total number of passengers, 58% were from mainland China, 15% were from Taiwan, and 27% were from Southeast and Northeast Asia.
In 2024, MIA hopes to contribute to the Macau SAR Government’s tourism development plan by securing mainland China as a source market for passengers and investigating additional international markets with the help of airlines.
By collaborating with foreign carriers, the airport seeks to increase the number of flights for travelers from Southeast and Northeast Asia, therefore increasing the number of foreign tourists to Macau.
