OFW reveals being forced to work as fraudster by Chinese employer
An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Thailand, alias “Rhea,” has allegedly been forced to work as a fraudster and subjected to physical abuse by her Chinese employer.
Rhea, who worked as an online casino agent alongside her boyfriend at first, reportedly suffered maltreatment after being relocated to a separate location where her boss locked her up and forced her to swindle for money.
Her Chinese employer allegedly demanded a payment of P100,000 to P1 million before allowing her to go. Rhea’s case was sent to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), especially the Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers. The matter has been referred to the Philippine Embassy in Thailand by the DFA.
Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega said that dealing with issues directly in Thailand is rare since the nation is often used as a hub, and OFWs are frequently relocated to various areas. Previously, the DFA rescued a large number of Filipinos who had been recruited to work as fraudsters in several Southeast Asian nations.
