PAGCOR-funded elementary school in Tarlac inaugurated

The Nilasin 1st Elementary School in Pura, Tarlac, opened a brand-new, two-story building with six classrooms on December 20. At a cost of about Php18 million ($324,580), the expansion, which was supported by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), responds to a long-standing need for more learning spaces that resulted from the effects of an earthquake more than three decades ago.

The 1990 earthquake severely damaged Pura’s infrastructure, including its schools. Despite multiple attempts at reconstruction, some of the structures were declared dangerous, which made the community’s educational problems worse.

In response to Mayor Freddie Domingo’s appeal for assistance, PAGCOR provided Php17.87 million to construct an earthquake-resistant building at Nilasin 1st Elementary School with the intention of creating a safer and more favorable learning environment.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to PAGCOR for their invaluable support in funding the construction of a new classroom facility in Pura,” Mayor Domingo stated.

“This generous contribution not only enhances our educational infrastructure but also empowers the future of our students. PAGCOR’s commitment to education is truly making a lasting impact on our community. Thank you for investing in the growth and development of Pura,” he adds.

This campaign aligns with PAGCOR’s broader efforts to foster connections between the gaming sector and communities around the Philippines. It occurs at a time when the Philippines’ gambling sector is reportedly seeing a financial rebound, with gaming income close to pre-pandemic levels, according to PAGCOR. Another recent project was a community and education meeting that took place earlier in December.
