New LRT station connecting Taipa with Macau peninsula to open on December 8
The recently constructed Macau Barra station, which will connect Taipa and the Macau peninsula, is scheduled to open on December 8th, according to a statement from the Macau Light Rail Transit Company Limited (LRT).
Barra station has been under construction for the last five years, with its opening in 2018. After the main construction was successfully finished in March of this year, there was a testing period that lasted more than six months. The project came at a total cost of MOP$1.18 billion (about US$147 million).
By adding another route for transportation between Macau and Taipa, the new line is anticipated to be very important in enhancing local traffic dynamics.
As a useful transportation hub, the Macau Barra Station is situated close to the A-Ma Temple, a popular tourist destination on the Macau Peninsula. Moreover, a number of Cotai integrated resorts are close to the Taipa LRT’s Cotai West and Cotai East stations, enhancing the area’s overall accessibility and convenience of the transportation system.
