Macau’s tourism campaign generates substantial bookings from tourists

November 23, 2023 Macau Industry Updates

“My Treat for You, Joyful Macao Tour,” Macau’s tourism promotion, has been a big hit, bringing in a lot of business and highlighting the area to travelers.

The promotion, which gave hotel discounts to tour groups from mainland China and abroad, resulted in reservations of CNY 1.1 billion (US$154.2 million) in the first 10 months of 2023, according to the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO).

Over the course of this year, the program recorded almost 994,000 hotel stays, which had a major impact on the local hospitality industry.

In addition to hotel discounts, the campaign offered airfare subsidies, resulting in about 106,000 reservations at a cost of MOP 153 million (US$19.0 million). These programs were part of the MGTO’s larger plan to attract tourists from across the world and diversify its sources of revenue.

In 2023, the six gambling operators of Macau participated in the “Macao Week” promotional activities that drew over 2.9 million visitors from mainland China. The occasion turned out to be a great success. Thanks to the events, savings on lodging, transportation, mementos, and food came to a total of CNY 127 million. The success of these programs may be attributed to the efficient collaboration between the tourist bureau of Macau and internet travel agents and information providers such as Trip.com in China.

Furthermore, about 300,000 people attended the MGTO’s “Experience Macau, Unlimited” campaign, which included events in foreign markets. Nearly 2.4 million people attended similar festivities in seven cities in Guangdong, the province in mainland China that borders Macau. These programs demonstrate Macau’s dedication to developing its tourism sector and positioning itself as a top tourist destination for visitors from mainland China and throughout the world.

The budgetary allotment of MOP 650 million for tourist development in 2023—which includes travel and lodging discounts—demonstrates the Macau government’s dedication to reviving the industry. By establishing Macau as a popular and competitive tourism destination, achieving these aims promotes regional economic development and sustainability.
