PH labor dept to review employment permits of POGO workers
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in the Philippines has started a thorough review of the Alien Employment Permits (AEPs) of almost 42,000 foreign workers who work for Philippine Online Gaming Operators (POGOs).
This investigation comes after an unlawful POGO company linked to human trafficking was raided recently. Any fraudulent conduct involving AEPs is the focus of the examination, and anyone discovered to be participating runs the danger of having their licenses revoked or suffering other legal ramifications.
The DOLE moved to address mounting concerns about the negative effects of POGOs on different unlawful enterprises, in response to the Senate of the Philippines’ proposal for an outright ban on offshore operators.
POGOs should not be allowed to function unimpeded, Senator Joel Villanueva said, particularly in situations when their licenses have been canceled. As head of the Senate Committee on Ways and Means, Gatchalian argued for the immediate expulsion of POGOs from the Philippines.
The Philippines is now dealing with AEP-related fraud difficulties as a result of allegations that foreign criminals are getting licenses unlawfully and participating in a variety of illicit activities, such as illegal gaming, human trafficking, and crimes involving guns.
The government’s primary objective of being removed from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) gray list is in line with its efforts to resolve these concerns.
