HK police arrests 335 individuals over Triad-related gambling
Following a three-day investigation, Hong Kong police arrested 335 individuals, dealing a serious blow to illegal gambling businesses connected to the city’s Triad networks.
The arrests were a result of a focused investigation into Triad’s suspected involvement in prostitution and illegal gaming. Early morning inspections at 223 entertainment establishments in the Hong Kong area turned up firearms, mahjong tables, narcotics, and casino chips valued at HKD 1.8 million (US$230,580).
The prisoners, whose ages vary from 18 to 88, are charged with operating illicit brothels and gaming establishments, owning firearms, committing fraud, laundering money, damaging property, and having narcotics.
Following the funeral of a former leader of the Hong Kong Wo Shing Wo triad, which attracted a large crowd of individuals connected to criminal groups, there was a crackdown. One of the oldest and most well-known triad groups in Hong Kong, the Wo Shing Wo triad is involved in violent operations, prostitution, drug trafficking, extortion, and illegal gambling.
