Genting Singapore plans to invest $5 billion for RWS expansion

November 13, 2023 Singapore Casino & HotelIndustry Updates

A significant increase from the previously projected SG$4.5 billion (US$2.9 billion) investment in 2019, Genting Singapore has revealed intentions to invest SG$6.8 billion (US$5 billion) in the development of Resorts World Sentosa (RWS).

The company expressed confidence that the investment, approved by its Board of Directors, would make RWS the top tourism destination in Asia and lead to significant future growth.

The large expansion project along Sentosa Island’s beachfront has received preliminary government authorization, and the whole expenditure will be paid internally. In addition to 700 more hotel rooms, the expansion will include immersive lifestyle content created by the renowned firm Benoy.

The project will also contain a new waterfront sculpture by Heatherwick Studio, which will transform Singapore’s skyline and serve as a spectacular entrance to RWS and the newly established Greater Southern Waterfront district.

With the Forum, Minion Land at Universal Studios Singapore, and the Singapore Oceanarium scheduled to open in early 2025, improvements to RWS’s present facilities are already under way.

In addition, Genting Singapore is updating 1,200 hotel rooms across three of its establishments: Festive Hotel, Hotel Michael, and Hard Rock Hotel Singapore. The goal of the restorations and extension is to solidify Resorts World Sentosa’s position as the premier tourism and entertainment destination in the area.
