After Galaxy, DigiPlus also has “no imminent plans” to build Boracay casino resort
DigiPlus Interactive Corp, the company formerly known as Leisure and Resorts World Inc., has said it has no intentions to build a casino resort on Boracay Island at this time.
After Galaxy Entertainment Group in Macau decided against resurrecting their joint integrated resort project on the island, this decision was made. In 2018, the two corporations announced plans to partner on an integrated resort project with an initial investment of $550 million.
However, these efforts were put on hold when former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte ordered a ban on the construction of any new casinos on the island. The ban was eventually removed in August of 2021.
DigiPlus founder and current Bacolod City mayor Alfredo “Albee” Benitez suggested interest in restarting the firm, however, the board of directors made it clear that he had quit in 2021. DigiPlus has stressed that it has no plans to expand its 24-hectare property on Boracay Island into an integrated casino complex at this time.
Instead, DigiPlus will stay committed to its strategic transformation goal, through which it aims to become the leading digital entertainment company in the Philippines.
Since 2022, digital entertainment has been the corporation’s primary focus, and the company plans to continue growing in this area. In the coming months, DigiPlus will expand its existing suite of cutting-edge digital entertainment options, including BingoPlus and ArenaPlus, as well as enhance its flagship digital platforms.
