Galaxy Entertainment says it has no intentions to re-enter Boracay
October 17, 2023 MacauPhilippines
Contrary to recent media claims, Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd. has emphasized that it has no intentions to re-enter Boracay, Philippines, to create a resort.
The company emphasized its focus on the full reopening of the Macau market and the expansion of its flagship Galaxy Macau resort, specifically mentioning the ongoing development of Phase 3 and the construction of Phase 4.
This statement is in response to remarks made by politician and businessman Albee Benitez, who raised the prospect of Galaxy Entertainment Group picking up the $500 million Boracay project again. In 2017, Albee Benitez, the founder of Leisure and Resorts World Corp (now DigiPlus Interactive Corp), first suggested the concept of a casino resort in Boracay, to which Galaxy Entertainment expressed interest.
But before the end of 2019, Leisure and Resorts World said that they were giving up on collaborating with Galaxy Entertainment on the Boracay project. In light of the happenings in Macau, it is evident from Galaxy Entertainment’s latest statement that they are not presently pursuing this prospect.
