Grand Lisboa to be renovated early next year

October 16, 2023 Macau Casino & Hotel

Chairman Daisy Ho said that SJM Holdings’ flagship property, Grand Lisboa in Macau, would be renovated with an emphasis on creating new dining options.

Redesigned as part of SJM’s investment promise after the concessionaire’s granting of a new 10-year gaming license. Although there won’t be more hotel rooms at the Grand Lisboa, the refurbishment attempts to improve the services that are already there.

Now in the planning stages, the project is anticipated to start early in the next year. No precise completion dates were given, although Chairman Ho did mention that October’s business trends had been stronger than anticipated.

Prior to this, SJM Holdings revealed plans to remodel the Lisboa and Grand Lisboa hotels for MOP$2.5 billion (US$310 million), with an emphasis on including additional non-gaming features. The renovations were originally scheduled to begin in 2025 and be finished in 2027 or 2028. During the recent eight-day Golden Week holiday, Macau’s market-wide gross gaming revenue hit a post-COVID high, which is encouraging for the gambling sector in the area.

Additionally, as per the terms of the deal, Macau’s concessionaires will have to raise their compulsory non-gaming investment by 20% if total gross gaming income surpasses MOP$180 billion in 2023. SJM Holdings is willing to comply with this obligation.
