PAGCOR to rename POGOs as Internet Gaming Licensees
According to the chairman and chief executive officer of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), the nation’s gaming regulator, licensed offshore gaming enterprises will henceforth be referred to by a new title. Instead of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs), they are now referred to as Internet Gaming Licensees (IGLs).
This modification is the consequence of PAGCOR’s efforts to organize and regulate the offshore gaming industry. All POGOs were placed on probation and subjected to more stringent probity tests as a result of PAGCOR updating the regulatory framework in August in line with the new regulatory framework.
The head of PAGCOR, Andrea Domingo Tengco, confirmed this vocabulary shift at a G2E conference interview in Las Vegas. The rebranding of offshore operators serves as a public notification of the regulatory modifications.
The entire list of recently licensed IGLs will be made public at the end of October, according to a relicensing process update from Tengco. The URLs of all websites that provide legitimate online gambling and are managed by licensed operators will be included on this page. There won’t be any licenses for service providers, but between 55 and 65 licenses are anticipated to be given. IGLs will be the only licenses offered, which raises questions about how service providers would be regulated.
Tengco underlined the transparency of PAGCOR’s new regulatory framework in order to inform the public about the new licensees. She said that the business will use a range of media channels to do this. This is vital since the Philippine business climate is full of illegal operations, and PAGCOR attempts to make it clear which businesses have legitimate permits and adhere to the law.
