This is how the team made it to the competition’s finals.

Revenant Esports is the second Indian team to make it to the Pokémon UNITE Asia Champions League Finals, which is set to take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The team made it to the finals by showing an impressive performance at the final day of the Pokémon UNITE Asia Champions India Qualifier. This earned Revenant Esports a slot at the offline event.

The Indian qualifiers were hosted by Skyesports and it took place from January 8 to February 9 with $8,500 (≈7 lakhs INR) as the prize. Now that Revenant Esports have qualified for the finals, the team will fly to Malaysia with Marcos Gaming to prove their mettle against the best of the best from East and Southeast Asia. All this for the prize of $30,000 (≈25 lakhs INR).

“We were one of the first Indian organizations to recognize the potential of Pokemon UNITE in the country and invested into it.” said Revenant Esports’ founder Rohit Jagasia. “After representing India last year in the World Championship, I am proud of our boys for qualifying for the Pokémon UNITE Asia Champions League LAN Final in Malaysia despite faltering in the group stage. We are super pumped to have been able to represent our country twice in the same title and we are highly committed to invest in Pokémon UNITE in the future as well.”

Revenant had a rocky start in the beginning of the tournament, as they suffered three consecutive losses in the group stage. However, they made a comeback in the playoffs, and won elimination matches against Gods Reign, True Rippers, and S8UL Esports to reach the grand final. There, they defeated Marcos Esports in a best-of-three series with a 2-1 score, becoming the Indian Pokémon UNITE champs.

“We had a really rocky start to the India qualifier and lost some crucial matches to finish in last at the group stage,” said Revenant Esports’ Pokémon UNITE player Jeet ‘Swifty’ Kundra. “Luckily, the tournament’s format allowed us to compete in the Playoffs as well. We returned to the drawing board, worked really hard, analyzed our mistakes, and have completed a dream comeback. It feels really great to become the Indian champions again and we look forward to representing the country in Kuala Lumpur.”
